Calico Basin lies on the eastern side of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, about half an hour west of Las Vegas. Its cliffs are Aztec sandstone, desert dunes that hardened into rock 180 to 190 million years ago; iron oxide stains them red, while places where groundwater leached the iron away show pale buff and cream. Three permanent springs, Red, Calico and Ash, water cottonwoods, ash trees and a marshy meadow, and people have depended on them for more than six thousand years. Petroglyphs pecked through the dark desert varnish, along with old agave-roasting pits, remain near Red Spring. To the northwest stands Turtlehead Peak, 1,927 m (6,323 ft), built of limestone some 250 million years old. About 65 million years ago the Keystone Thrust drove this older grey rock up and over the younger red sandstone, a contrast still plain from the basin floor.

Our solid hardwood cribbage boards are modeled with actual topographic data to capture any place on earth. Each board has a storage space for three sets of metal pegs behind a custom-etched stainless steel door. Boards measure roughly 350mm (13.5”) long by 190mm (7.5") wide by 90mm (3.5”) tall and are finished with tung oil for durability and a slight sheen. Additional options include a custom message or logo etched on the stainless steel door tag (32 characters max, +$10), and an engraved name, message or logo on the side or underside of the board (+$20 standard, +$40 with a contrasting filler). Side and underside engraving is sized to fit the board, typically no taller than 1 inch (25 mm). For a logo, email a PNG to info@knurl.ca after you order.

Our products are designed, crafted, and finished in Alberta, Canada.

Disclaimer: Because we use solid hardwood, some boards may have natural imperfections.
