Strawberry Mountains
The Strawberry Range owes its gentle name to Nathan Willis Fisk, a homesteader who called the high point Strawberry Butte, and its creek Strawberry Creek, because wild strawberries grew there so thickly. Over time the butte became Strawberry Mountain, and the name stuck on official maps. The peak itself is much older and much fiercer than its name suggests: it is the worn-down core of an andesite volcano that poured out roughly 100 cubic kilometres of material between 16 and 14 million years ago. Ice Age glaciers later scooped out U-shaped valleys, leaving seven alpine lakes, while debris washed from the old volcano settled in the John Day valley, where it preserves fossils of early horses. The summit stands at about 2,750 metres (roughly 9,000 ft) in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness, first protected in 1964, above the towns of Prairie City and Canyon City.

Our solid hardwood cribbage boards are modeled with actual topographic data to capture any place on earth. Each board has a storage space for three sets of metal pegs behind a custom-etched stainless steel door. Boards measure roughly 350mm (13.5”) long by 190mm (7.5") wide by 90mm (3.5”) tall and are finished with tung oil for durability and a slight sheen. Additional options include a custom message or logo etched on the stainless steel door tag (32 characters max, +$10), and an engraved name, message or logo on the side or underside of the board (+$20 standard, +$40 with a contrasting filler). Side and underside engraving is sized to fit the board, typically no taller than 1 inch (25 mm). For a logo, email a PNG to info@knurl.ca after you order.
Our products are designed, crafted, and finished in Alberta, Canada.
Disclaimer: Because we use solid hardwood, some boards may have natural imperfections.
